Roll on Roll Coated Perovskite Solar Cells – Roll to Roll ProcessingCheersonic

As we all know, the three major challenges hindering the development of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are toxicity, stability and large-scale production. Based on the depth of professional knowledge in the field of printing and electronics, the coating and printing of perovskite materials have made rapid progress, which is of great commercial significance for the large-scale production of PSCs. Here we will outline the printing process and the latest progress of solution treated PSCs, as well as the unique challenges and opportunities they face.

Compared with organic optoelectronics, solution treatable PSCs have many similarities in ink preparation, solution deposition and film post-treatment. The main difference lies in the nucleation and crystallization process of forming perovskite thin films. For traditional solution processing electronic materials, ink is a solution of small organic molecules or conjugated polymers, and only in the final organic film will intermolecular van der Waals bonding occur; No covalent or ionic chemical bond and/or crystallization is formed during deposition (In addition to forming a limited crystal domain in some OPV materials, on the contrary, mixed organic inorganic perovskite films are made of ink made of dissolved precursor materials, and must crystallize into perovskite structure after wet film deposition. This crystallization process will seriously affect the quality and morphology of perovskite films. In most cases, the ideal morphology of perovskite films has large grain size and dense films (as few pinholes as possible) and lower surface roughness. These standards should be met while maintaining the crystal structure and phase uniformity of perovskite. At present, the use of roll to roll coating technology to prepare high-quality perovskite thin films has been reported in many literatures.

Cheersonic has recently developed an ultrasonic roll to roll coating method to manufacture organic solar cell films. This method uses roll to roll technology to manufacture the electron transfer layer and active layer of organic solar cells. The method adopts the intermediate ultrasonic coating technology, which can produce the thin film layer of the solar cell in a large area, reduce the cost, and the formed thin film layer has good efficiency.
