Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer that threatens human life and health. Among the elderly, valvular heart disease is the third leading cardiovascular disease after hypertension and coronary heart disease.
What is heart valve disease?
Heart valve refers to the valve between the atrium and the ventricle or between the ventricle and the artery. If the heart is compared to a house, the heart has four rooms, and the valve is the door to enter and exit these four rooms to ensure the one-way flow of blood. There are four heart valves (aortic valve, mitral valve, tricuspid valve and pulmonic valve), when the valve stenosis or insufficiency, and cause symptoms, it is called valvular heart disease.
The causes of heart valve disease include congenital heredity, rheumatism and degeneration. With the aging of the population, geriatric degeneration has gradually become the main cause. According to epidemiological survey statistics, the incidence of valvular heart disease in my country is 2.5%-3.2%.
Severe heart valve disease, such as severe aortic stenosis and severe mitral regurgitation, can cause symptoms such as chest pain, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and syncope, which can develop into heart failure and be life-threatening.
Don’t open your chest and change your heart
For severe heart valve disease, drug therapy is often ineffective. The traditional treatment method is surgical thoracotomy and valve replacement, but its disadvantages are the need for extracorporeal circulation, cardiac arrest, large surgical trauma, and long recovery time. A large number of patients cannot afford surgery due to high risk factors such as advanced age, poor cardiac function, and multiple comorbidities.
With the progress of science and technology, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVR), which does not require cardiopulmonary bypass and cardiac arrest, has entered people’s vision. This kind of operation usually sends catheters, valves and metal clips to the heart through peripheral blood vessels under the guidance of X-ray and ultrasound for valve replacement or valve repair. No operation, less trauma, high safety and fast recovery. Generally, they can go to the ground within 24 hours after operation, which has become the gospel of high-risk patients.
TAVR has version 2.0
Although the TAVR technique is very mature, technological progress will not stop, and TAVR 2.0 came into being. This operation does not require transesophageal ultrasound. The bilateral femoral artery is changed to a unilateral femoral artery approach, the anesthesia method is simplified, and the laryngeal mask is used for individualized drug delivery, which ensures the safety of the operation, improves the efficiency, and greatly shortens the operation time.
