GDLs Catalyst Coating – Ultrasonic Coating Systems – Cheersonic
Nowadays, proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells have emerged as one of the top candidates to replace the internal combustion engine in transportation vehicles. PEM fuel cells are well equipped to handle this role as they have quick startups, low operational temperatures, high efficiencies, and produce only water and heat as byproducts. To be accepted as a replacement to internal combustion engines, fuel cells will have to offer high performance to maintain the standard set by combustion engines. One of the primary degradations within fuel cells is due to flooding of the cathode gas diffusion layer (GDL). The GDL is porous carbon fiber cloth or paper that provides the primary water removal route from the cathode catalyst layer to the cathode flow channels. Water can be removed from the cell either in liquid or vapor form.
