SOFC Coating Processes
SOFC Coating Processes – Spray Coater Machine – Cheersonic
Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) are electrochemical devices that convert chemical energy of a fuel and oxidant directly into electrical energy. Since SOFCs produce electricity through an electrochemical reaction and not through a combustion process, they are much more efficient and environmentally benign than conventional electric power generation processes. Their inherent characteristics make them uniquely suitable to address the environmental, climate change, and water concerns associated with fossil fuel based electric power generation. The basic structure of an SOFC consists of a solid electrolyte (usually a ceramic) positioned between an anode and a cathode. Fuel is delivered to the anode and oxidant, typically air, is delivered to the cathode. The electrodes are solid porous structures that allow the fuel and air to diffuse to the electrolyte and the products of the electrochemical reaction on the anode side to diffuse away from the electrolyte.
Cheersonic has developed coating processes that prvide excellent results with durable, pinhole-free coatings. And because the equipment has the advantage of extremely high liquid utilization, it can greatly reduce research and production costs. UAC4000L is a tabletop system often used in R&D or low volume production for coating Proton Exchange Membranes (PEMs) or other electrolyte materials with metal catalyst inks. These ultra thin materials require several layers of coating to achieve necessary weight gain of inks without deformation of the delicate membranes.
The advantages of Cheersonic’s ultrasonic equipment include the following:
1. Minimal maintenance and downtime.
2. Very high Platinum utilization proven in MEA fabrication; as high as 90%.
3. Robust design and materials resist corrosion.
4. Low-flow spray reduces spillage and air pollution.
5. Continuous or intermittent operation possible
6. Ultrasonic energy disperses the agglomerated particles, producing a homogeneous coating.
7. Highly porous coatings are extremely durable, preventing cracking or peeling of catalyst layer.
8. Non-clogging
9. No moving parts to wear out
