Research Progress of HER Electrocatalysts
Research Progress of HER Electrocatalysts – Catalyst Coating – Cheersonic
In recent years, the development of transition metal-based HER electrocatalysts under weak alkaline conditions is still being actively explored. The research on HER electrocatalysts under weak alkaline conditions mainly focuses on non-precious metal elements such as nickel (Ni), cobalt (Co), molybdenum (Mo), copper (Cu), and iron (Fe). Through element doping, alloying, phosphides and chalcogenides, or the introduction of carbon allotropes such as carbon nanotubes and graphene, nanomaterials with defect sites and high specific surface area are developed in the structure.
At present, the research on HER non-precious metal-based electrocatalysts is mainly divided into the following two aspects according to the metal elements.
1. Ni-based electrocatalysts. Since Ni-based catalysts have high activity and excellent corrosion resistance in alkaline media, and are more stable than other transition metals (such as Fe and Co), nickel-based catalysts are studied as HER catalysts to replace Pt-based catalysts. Similar to NiFe in OER, NiCo-based catalysts are often used as HER catalysts because Co can enhance the active surface area and catalytic activity of Ni, and the synergistic effect of the interaction between Ni and Co can reduce the energy barrier of H−OH bond dissociation and accelerate the Volmer step.
2. Co-based electrocatalysts. Co has attracted attention for its role in improving the kinetics of nickel-based catalysts. Unlike cobalt-based OER electrocatalysts containing CoFe and Co oxides, cobalt-based hydrogen evolution catalysts used as cathodes in AEM electrolysis are usually Co phosphides and sulfides. Because heteroatoms such as phosphorus, sulfur, and nitrogen can participate in HER reactions as active sites.
Ultrasonic catalyst coating systems are uniquely suited for these challenging applications by creating highly uniform, repeatable, and durable coatings. From R&D to production, our non-clogging technology results in greater control of coating attributes, significant reduction in materials usage, and reduced maintenance and downtime.
Ultrasonic spraying is ideal for deposition of solar cells, fuel cells, silicon cell coatings, and is increasingly used in research and production of spraying processes. Ultrasonic Spraying Materials technology can be used to deposit uniform and extremely thin coatings on substrates of any width. Ultrasonic spraying technology enables very thin coatings with extremely high uniformity, resulting in improved electronic conversion rates and transport.
