Types of carbon electrodes

The electrode materials we use usually have many physical and chemical properties.

For example, good conductivity, low resistivity to improve the power of the molten pool; then high melting point; there is a small coefficient of thermal expansion, when the temperature changes suddenly, it is not easy to deform, and it can not produce small cracks due to the internal stress caused by temperature changes to increase resistance; then there should be enough mechanical strength at high temperature; finally, the impurities should be low, and the impurities do not pollute the smelted varieties, and so on.

According to their uses and manufacturing processes, carbon electrodes can be divided into three types: carbon electrode, graphite electrode and self baking electrode.

1: The carbon electrode is made of anthracite, metallurgical coke, pitch coke and petroleum coke with low ash content as raw materials, according to a certain proportion and particle size composition, adding binder asphalt and tar when mixing, stirring evenly at appropriate temperature, pressing and forming, and finally roasting slowly in the roasting furnace. It can be divided into natural graphite electrode, artificial graphite electrode, carbon electrode and special carbon electrode.

2: Graphite electrode is made of petroleum coke and pitch coke as raw materials. It is also divided into ordinary power graphite electrode, which is mainly used in ordinary power electric furnace for steelmaking, silicon smelting and yellow phosphorus smelting; high power graphite electrode, which is mainly used in high power electric arc furnace for steelmaking; ultra high power graphite electrode, which is mainly used in ultra-high power electric arc furnace for steelmaking.

3: The self baking electrode can be used continuously, and it can be formed by lengthening while being used, and can be baked into large diameter. It is made of anthracite, coke, asphalt and tar as raw materials at a certain temperature, and then the electrode paste is put into the electrode shell installed on the electric furnace. In the production process of the electric furnace, it depends on the Joule heat generated by the current passing through and the heat conduction in the furnace, and the self baking electrode can be made It is widely used in ferroalloy production because of its simple process and low cost.
