Polyimide Spraying New Way
1. What is polyimide (PI)
Polyimide (Polyimide, PI) is a polymer containing imide structure in the main chain of the molecular structure, polyimide is a very large family, the main chain of high-performance PI mostly aromatic and heterocyclic rings as the main structural unit. PI has the highest flame retardant grade (UL-94), good electrical insulation properties, mechanical properties, chemical stability, aging resistance, irradiation resistance These properties do not change significantly in a wide temperature range (-269℃-400℃) and are known as “one of the most promising engineering plastics in the 21st century” and as “problem solver”. It can be said that “without polyimide there would not be today’s microelectronics technology”, and its performance is at the top of the pyramid of polymer materials.
2. The application field of polyimide
The excellent performance of polyimide and excellent processing performance make it can be made into different products and applied to different fields in many ways. Of all the polymers, polyimide is the only one that has a wide range of applications and shows outstanding performance in every one of them. Polyimide materials are used in a wide range of applications, including films, fibres, photosensitive materials, foams and composites for flexible screens, rail transportation, aerospace, fireproofing materials, photoresists, electronic packaging, fan blades, warships, automobiles and several other fields.
3. Polyimide Spraying New Way – Ultrasonic Coating
The more commonly used way of spraying polyimide is spin coating method, but now there is a new spraying way on the market is more simple, economic and stable – ultrasonic spraying. It can be applied to any shape or size and is a viable alternative to other coating techniques such as spin coating and conventional spraying. Ultrasonic nozzles use high-frequency ultrasound and are combined with intelligent dispersion injectors to avoid nozzle clogging. Cheersonic ultrasonic coating systems allow fine control of flow rate, coating speed and deposition volume using simple control technology. The low speed spray forming technology ensures a coating range that avoids overspray while producing very thin, uniform coatings. Cheersonic’s ultrasonic coating systems are capable of coating on both flat and 3D substrates, this includes silicon wafers, glass, ceramics and metals, and can control thicknesses from sub-micron to over 100 microns. The advantages of ultrasonic coating in the polyimide coating process include:
- Uniform film coverage over a wide range of surface contours
- High flexibility in chemical and coating properties
- Non-clogging atomised spraying
- High transfer efficiency with minimal waste
- Highly reproducible and proven coating process
4. Outlook
The polyimide industry has a high threshold and high technical barriers. As polyimide related materials have an irreplaceable role in sensitive fields such as aerospace, military and high-end electronics, the continuous development of polyimide and related products will change every aspect of our life. Cheersonic has also been working in this field, breaking new ground and developing new products, and now has coating equipment for the polyimide industry, including: fully automatic ultrasonic coating equipment, carrier gas, heating table, vacuum adsorption and exhaust gas discharge, etc., to help companies of different sizes in the microelectronics field to accelerate the transformation of polyimide coating technology and value creation.
