Currently, the main commercially available water electrolysis technologies are proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis and alkaline electrolysis. However, the acidic environment required in PEM electrolysis limits the choice of catalysts to the expensive noble metals, such as platinum, iridium and it oxides. Furthermore, the Nafion-based PEM and titanium stack components directly increase the capital cost of the electrolysis process, hence hindering the wider application of this technology. Recently, researchers have developed an emerging third-generation technology, anion exchange membrane (AEM) water electrolysis, which integrates the benefits of both conventional PEM and alkaline electrolysis.

Cheersonic’ s fuel cell catalyst coating systems are uniquely suited for these challenging applications by creating highly uniform, repeatable, and durable coatings.
