PEM Membrane Electrode Preparation
In addition to reducing the catalyst precious metal loading and improving the catalyst activity and stability, the membrane electrode preparation process is crucial to reducing the cost of the electrolysis system and improving the performance and life of the electrolysis cell. According to the different catalyst layer supports, membrane electrode preparation methods are divided into CCS method and CCM method.
The CCS method directly coats the catalyst active components on the gas diffusion layer, while the CCM method directly coats the catalyst active components on both sides of the proton exchange membrane, which is the biggest difference between the two manufacturing processes. Compared with the CCS method, the CCM method has a higher catalyst utilization rate and greatly reduces the proton transfer resistance between the membrane and the catalytic layer. It is the mainstream method for membrane electrode preparation.
On the basis of CCS method and CCM method, the newly developed electrochemical deposition method, ultrasonic spraying method and transfer printing method have become research hotspots and have application potential in recent years. The new preparation method improves the structure of the membrane electrode from multiple directions and angles, overcomes the structural defects such as random stacking of catalyst particles in the catalytic layer of the membrane electrode prepared by the traditional method, and disorderly distribution of pores in the gas diffusion layer, and improves the mass transfer capacity of the three-phase interface of the membrane electrode. Improve the utilization rate of precious metals and improve the electrochemical performance of membrane electrodes.
