Ultrasonic Spray Coating Machines in PET Film Coating
Application of Ultrasonic Spray Coating Machines in PET Film Coating and Metallized PET Variations
PET film, with its advantages of high strength, high transparency, and dimensional stability, is widely used in packaging, electronics, optics, and other fields. Metallization further expands its functional boundaries. Ultrasonic spray coating machines, with their precise coating capabilities, have become the core equipment for metallized PET film coating. They can achieve full-metal dyeing effects ranging from completely opaque (reflective) to low-level transparency, while also being adaptable to various metallization and coating side variations to meet the diverse needs of different industries.
Ultrasonic spray coating machines employ non-mechanical contact atomization coating, which is well-suited to the thin and easily damaged characteristics of PET film. It effectively avoids problems such as roll stretching and scratching, ensuring the integrity of the raw material. Through high-frequency ultrasound, it atomizes the coating into micron-level fine mist, resulting in excellent coating spreadability, no pinholes or sagging defects, dry film thickness accuracy of ±5%, and excellent areal density uniformity, significantly improving the surface texture and performance stability of metallized PET. Furthermore, the equipment boasts high coating utilization, is compatible with various coatings including water-based and solvent-based types, and can support roll-to-roll continuous production, balancing environmental friendliness with large-scale production needs.
The core advantage of metallized PET is its customizable full range of metallic dyeing effects. Leveraging the precise thickness control capabilities of ultrasonic spraying machines, by adjusting the thickness of the metallic coating and the dyeing process, a gradient from completely opaque and reflective to light-colored transparent can be achieved, adapting to different scenarios’ requirements for both light-blocking and light-transmitting properties. Completely opaque versions are often used in high-end packaging and reflective materials, achieving both light-blocking and decorative effects through strong reflectivity; light-colored transparent versions are suitable for optical filtering, flexible electronics, and other fields, balancing metallic texture and light transmission.
Based on the functional requirements of different industries, metallized PET offers various metallization/treatment or coating variations to suit diverse application scenarios. One option is one-sided metallization/corona treatment on the other side, which enhances the surface tension of PET through corona treatment, improving the adhesion of subsequent lamination and printing, and is often used in packaging composite film production. Secondly, one side can be metallized while the other side undergoes chemical treatment. This strengthens the bond between the metal layer and the PET substrate through surface group reactions, reducing metal shedding and making it suitable for long-term electronic component packaging.
Thirdly, one side can be metallized while the other side is coated with a PVdC coating. PVdC possesses excellent barrier properties, preventing moisture and oxygen penetration while maintaining a metallic texture and providing preservation and protection. It is widely used in food and pharmaceutical packaging and can be recycled through enzymatic polymerization, aligning with sustainable development needs. Fourthly, one side can be metallized while the other side remains uncoated, preserving the original characteristics of PET and balancing metallic decorative appeal with the substrate’s inherent flexibility. This is suitable for low-cost applications such as simple packaging and decorative sheets.
Furthermore, metallized PET supports customizable metallization hue levels. Utilizing the CIE color standard system, the optical parameters of the metal layer and substrate can be adjusted to achieve different hues and saturations, meeting personalized decorative needs. The equipment can also operate independently of the metallization machine or be modified to match customized roll specifications for PET film products, adapting to PET substrates of different widths and thicknesses, flexibly addressing both small-batch customization and large-scale production needs.
The combination of ultrasonic spraying machines and metallized PET variants has driven the diversified upgrading of PET film functions. Whether it’s enhancing the texture of high-end packaging, providing precise protection in the electronics field, or controlling light transmission in the optics field, all can be achieved through customized coating solutions. In the future, with process optimization, both will be further adapted to emerging fields such as new energy and wearable devices, continuously expanding their application boundaries.
